The result of Open Monthly Course (March course) Completion Questionnaire

April 15, 2011 - Questionnaire

Our Open Monthly Course was closed for 3 days right after the earthquake on March 11, and restarted on March 17. We asked the students who came back to class to fill in the questionnaire, which has not only usual items about the course but our countermeasure to the earthquake. We’re happy to know that what we did could relieve their anxiety. Here’s the summary of the questionnaire.

Did KAI provide you adequate support and guidance at the time of the earthquake?

Yes: 4 No: 0

Please elaborate the reason for your answer:

  • All KAI staff did an excellent job of looking after all students in these distressing circumstances. All staff were very professional, but also very friendly and reassuring. Thank you.
  • Staff acted professionally & appropriately. Much care was given to the students’ safety during this period. Arigato!
  • Well you did all you could to make us feel safe. You tried to give us as much information as possible.
  • KAI team guided us to safe place.

Was it appropriate that KAI closed classes for 3 days after the earthquake and restarted on the 4th day?

Yes: 4 No: 0

Please elaborate the reason for your answer:

  • Situation was unsafe and unclear at that time -> difficult to come to school by train, so better closed.
  • Necessary safety measures were taken to insure students’ safety – i.e. that the building was safe. I was thankful that the course restarted.
  • The make-up classes were a good solution.
  • You must have done it for a reason.

Did KAI provide you appropriate information regarding closing/restarting the classes after the earthquake?

Yes: 4 No: 0

Please elaborate the reason for your answer:

  • I attended information class. KAI team informed us about earthquake and Fukushima and lesson.
  • Information on the website was useful & up-to-date.
  • I was really glad that you did. I have not felt unsafe at any time since we started again.
  • I received several phone calls.

How satisfied are you in your experience with this course?

100%: 3 90%: 1

Please elaborate on your reasons for choosing the level of satisfaction you indicated above.

  • The course makes me try to talk in Japanese more than before -> very useful for daily life.
  • It’s all good.
  • You did all in your power to run the course despite earthquake!
  • The course was very comprehensive & the teaching staff were excellent. Classes were also lively, interesting & fun. The course taught me practical & useful real life examples.

Were there any particular exercises in your lessons that you found to be especially effective?

  • Group Activities such as interviews/question&answer dialogues, role plays e.g. Going to a restaurant.
  • Free talk with teachers. Use of props – Flashcards, etc.

What would you like to see changed so that your satisfaction improves?

  • More in-class revision. Perhaps a bit more homework (e.g. on weekends).
  • Sometimes the pace was quite fast, but again, make-up classes were very useful.
